Thoughts – Values, Beliefs II

Beliefs are those things we hold true.
Beliefs can evolve and change over time based on what we learn and what we experience.
Beliefs can be reinforced as a result of our perception of our experience.

Can our beliefs also determine our experiences?
If we believe something to be true, and something happens, can we erroneously believe it happened because that is what we believe? If we didn’t believe and think in that way, could the situation have been different?

I came across this quote whilst thinking about this concept and the link between beliefs and perceptions. We are all unique and hold subtly different beliefs and perceptions. There are those that perceive certain things are frightening and should be avoided. So much so that when a situation arises and they are confronted with the fear they come out in a sweat and suffer any number of physical reactions. Others, confronted with precisely the same thing, do not have the same reaction. This reinforces in one that that situation shall be feared and in the other that it need not be feared.
If we are open to understanding that are beliefs and are perceptions are in our mind, we can change them.
