Street Photography and its legality

When it comes to Street Photography, Documentary or Photojournalism the rights of individuals not to suffer harassment comes to mind. Pushing a long lens in some unsuspecting, passer-by’s face is harassment in my view. Standing back and zooming in isn’t. The paparazzi have a reputation for harassment, waiting outside celebrities houses is a mixture of stalking and harassment in my view and should be abhorred. Photographing people doing their legitimate work should be permitted. Photographing people doing their illegitimate work is, perhaps, a public service on behalf of the photographer.

If you are in public don’t be surprised if the public see you and maybe take a photo. If your on private land…that is a different matter.
I sometimes take candid photos and am disappointed if I am spotted as people have a habit of posing and destroying the moment.
