Extracting Clay for pottery and bricks

Collect the soil which will be the source of clay.

Mix with water

Sieve out any sand and rocks and keep the dirty slurry from the sieve

Let the slurry stand for 30 minutes

Decant off the clear liquid from the top

Sieve through a fine muslin cloth snd retsin the sediment.

Let it drain and hang for 12 hours

For pottery mix 4 parts  drained sediment with 1 part of fine sand.

For bricks the clay doesn’t have to be as fine or clean as it does for pottery

Mould wet clay into shape, dust with fine sand

Allow to dry 2/3/4 days

Fire in a clamp or kiln
