Here are six studies of oil on water with different colours. The colours have been introduced in photoshop by altering the tint and temperature of the original shot, as well as adjusting curves.
The medium is water, in a bowl, with a few drops of soap solution and then oil added. Relatively quickly the oil coalesced, but by stirring the mixture and allowing to settle, different arrangements are possible
